Extension

extension, originally uploaded by aikitherese.

It's been really wonderful working with weapons in aikido. Bokken and jo are tools that help me understand where my energy is coming from and how I can extend it out from myself...

A sunny morning here in the bay area...a little hazy, but sunshine none the less. I have a massage appointment this morning at 11:00...looking forward to that. Got a little gardening started yesterday and hope to continue along those lines.

Matt is leaving town for a few days. He'll be back Thursday night, just in time to pack up Friday and leave for San Diego VERY EARLY Saturday morning. I'm delighted at the prospect of seeing some of my surfline friends at San Elijo, and also just to bask in that San Diego-ness I'm so fond of.

MacExpo...

screensky, originally uploaded by aikitherese.

...is this week and Matt is taking Julian this afternoon. When J gets home from school he and Matt will take BART over to SF and spend couple hours wandering the exhibit hall. They always seem to come home with cool freebies too!! Fortunately it looks like any major "rain" is abaited for now, so they won't get soaked (fingers crossed!).

Slow day for me. Having a hard time engaging any momentum. Miscellaneous tasks are getting taken care of...but nothing very exciting...not that life has to be exciting or anything!

Monday lunch...

lunch, originally uploaded by aikitherese.

Not feeling great...so soup sounded good for lunch...

No rain today and it's really quite lovely out. A little cool, still cloudy, but enough blue sky and sunshine to liven things up a bit.

Getting a few things done, despite my under-the-weather-ness. I'm hoping I can squeeze a darkroom day in this week...

Matt is really loving "Awake at Work," a book I gave him for Christmas. He's been reading bits and pieces to me, which is helping to rekindle my own desire to "practice." Well, in some ways life is practice. Focused practice is what I'm referring to...

Sunday afternoon...

luckybamboo3, originally uploaded by aikitherese.

Had only partly cloudy skies today...no rain. Got my mileage in early, just in case though. The Christmas stuff has come down and only boxes need to be taken to the basement and the tree outside. When is spring going to be here again???

Off and on...

drops, originally uploaded by aikitherese.

...the rain comes and goes...

I went to the park for weapon's practice this morning, only to find no one else there. For about 15 minutes I practiced with my jo and then left. Since sensei is sometimes at Strada, I thought I'd stop by to see if I missed something. Apparently I did...sensei had told the class he was not teaching weapon's this Saturday! On a cold, wet morning like this, I'm not surprised no one else showed...but for some odd reason, I enjoyed getting out and my brief time practicing, so it's all good.

The rest of the household is taking off shortly, w/a handful of friends in tow, to go over to SF. This is Julian's "party" for his birthday. They'll go to the Metreon and play in the arcades and get something to eat...then come home for cake (which I need to head out to procure shortly).

Brief respite...

It's back...

windowdrops, originally uploaded by aikitherese.

We had some hazy sunshine yestserday...no rain to speak of, but early this morning another storm blew in. Supposed to have wind warnings and all, but so far nothing extreme has shown itself.

The sky was overall dark gray when I got up. About an hour ago the clouds started moving around and there's some definition to their shapes at this point.

A small venture to Trader Joe's will about take care of my "outings" for the day...unless there's an extended break and I can get out for my routine perambulation. Either way is good...there's plenty to take care of INSIDE!!

Thursday...

grassroof, originally uploaded by aikitherese.

Finally we get a little sunshine this morning. More storms are on the way according to the forecast, though...

Thinking about Hawaii again. Matt's trying to get our reservations all set. Because we're using flight fund coupons, there's a little wait until things are all confirmed. We're hoping to go at the beginnig of August. That seems so far away, but there's lots to do in between with all life has to offer, so I'm sure the time will fly by.

Hopefully next week I'll be back in the darkroom. I have a few sets of negatives I haven't worked on yet, plus three more rolls of film to process. The digital shooting is very addictive, but I want to work on my printing skills and really do love the practice, so I need to return to film.

Everyone is back in the groove now, what with work and school. When there is a longer break between storms and the ground becomes a little less saturated, it'll be time to get in the garden!! For now my efforts are going more to photography and, well, household tasks...like cooking (which I love and want to experiment more with).

New start...

pwillow, originally uploaded by aikitherese.

That's what the new year brings...in many different ways...

HOWEVER...I think I have the post holiday blues!! Or would that be grays? We had a little bit of hazy sunshine yesterday, but we're back to drizzly, rainy, grayness. Maybe I should peruse some seed catalogs.

I'm actually fairly excited about doing a garden this year. There are still no grow boxes in the back, but I can do it w/o them...it would just make weed control a little easier. The herbs are in desperate need of cutting back, as are the fruit trees and roses. Anytime this month should do, though, so I'm not anxious to get out in the rain to do it!! Looking forward to crafting more tinctures and vinegars w/my garden givings...

Ah well...random musings on a cold, gray, January day... Maybe I'll make some hot cocoa!!

We went to California Pizza Kitchen last evening for Julian's birthday dinner. The place is still decorated for the holidays. That's what's so great about having a birthday this time of year, you still get to enjoy all the holiday spirit.

Back to the routine...

wet table, originally uploaded by aikitherese.

The kids are back to school and although Matt technically has today off (instead of last Friday), he's still downstairs taking care of clients.

Looks like there will be some sunshine today. We took a trip up to Copia in Napa yesterday and had rain the whole time...which was okay, actually. No torrential downpours or high winds, so the drive was fine. Plus, the green, green of the hills in the rain was just lovely.

It's off to the usual tasks that my days require...

I hope that everyone had a safe and fun New Year's Eve and that 2005 is off to a great start!!

Rain and sunshine alternating up here in the Bay area. I already got out for my walk during a "dry" spell...which means that I will regularly get out for my daily exercise throughout this year...right??? :)

I look forward to a lot of things...so much to do, to work on and improve...so much to find joy in...
